LOSS - Local Outreach to Suicide Survivor Loss
WHO we are:
We are a team of dedicated mental health professionals and trained volunteers who show up for people in their most painful moments. Many of us have personally experienced suicide loss and understand the unique grief that follows. Our purpose is to offer hope, connection, and gentle guidance so no one has to navigate this journey alone.
WHAT Is a LOSS Team:
A LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Survivors of Suicide) is a specialized postvention program designed to support people in the immediate aftermath of a suicide loss. Our team is made up of compassionate mental health professionals and trained community volunteers—many of whom have personally experienced suicide loss themselves.

We respond to families, friends, and loved ones during an incredibly difficult time, offering:
Immediate emotional support
Guidance and compassionate presence
Information about practical next steps
Resources for ongoing healing, including counseling and support groups
Our mission is simple: to make sure no one faces suicide loss alone. By showing up, offering care, and connecting survivors with hope and help, the LOSS Team walks alongside individuals as they begin navigating the grieving process.
WHY we do this:
Losing someone to suicide is one of the most overwhelming and isolating experiences a person can face. In those first hours and days, survivors often feel lost, alone, or unsure of what to do next. We show up because no one should have to endure that moment without support. Our mission is to offer hope, connection, and understanding when it’s needed most.
HOW do we work:
Our LOSS Team operates in close partnership with local first responders to ensure that support reaches survivors as quickly as possible. When a suicide loss occurs, law enforcement or emergency personnel notify our team. From there, trained LOSS Team members—made up of mental health professionals and suicide loss survivors—are dispatched to the scene to offer immediate, compassionate support.
During an on-scene response, our team provides:
Emotional support and calm presence during an incredibly overwhelming moment
Resource materials, including information on local counseling options, support groups, and practical next steps
Answers to questions survivors may have as they begin processing what has happened
If an in-person response at the scene is not possible, the LOSS Team will reach out as soon as we are able to provide what we call a delayed-support response. Whether on scene or through follow-up, our goal remains the same: to connect survivors with care, comfort, and hope from the very beginning.
